A
facelift is designed to rejuvenate the face by eliminating wrinkles
and sagging skin. The procedure is usually performed under local
or general anesthesia to provide maximum comfort to the patient.
Incisions are made in the hairline and along the front of the
ear. The skin and fat is elevated. The underlying muscle and
fascia is tightened. The neck is suctioned of excessive fat
and the loose muscle is tightened in the neck.
The traditional facelift tightens the cheeks
and neck. The procedure can be performed as early as the mid-thirties
up to the eighties depending on the elasticity of the skin
and the health of the patient. Sometimes the face can be divided
into the mid-face and neck. Each of these areas can be addressed
individually but usually the entire face looks better when
lifted as a unit. Recovery is one to two weeks to allow swelling
and discoloration to resolve.
