The main focus of the face
are the eyes. Sagging eyelid skin and puffy bags obstruct the eyes
and are signs of age. They give the face a tired look. An eyelid
lift removes the excessive eyelid skin and fat.
The eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty,
can be performed under local or general anesthesia. It involves
making an incision in the upper eyelid crease and removing an ellipse
of skin. The underlying fat is also removed and then the incision
is closed. The lower lid incision is made just below the lower eyelashes
or inside the lower eyelid. The puffy fat bags are removed and occasionally
a small amount of skin. Postoperatively there is a small amount
of bruising and swelling of the eyelids which takes on to two weeks
to resolve.
